Vons Chicken ] Love the food but a tiny portion.. Fried/ Oven baked chicken. Recommended Chicken
Hi there,
Vons Chicken is one of the famous franchise brands in Korea. They surely had their heyday back in 2000s.
So you can imagine how excited I was to hear them opening several locations in the bay area a couple of years ago.
This is the menu.
They have Fried / Oven Chicken. Come to think of it, they were known for Chicken baked in the oven (aka it's supposed to be healtier). That surely was a great hit back then.

Anyway, I went to the San Jose one and I'd like to share my experience. As of November 2021, they accept dining-in. There were 5-ish tables available and most of them were full the entire time that we were sitting in. I saw many people taking out their food.
Anyway, I'm not sure if they've minimized the size of the food on purpose or something's different in America branches, but the portion-wise.. is very disappointing.
The following photo is V7. Cheese Buldak($28.99) - which means 'spicy' chicken. My friend and I love spicy food, so we loved it. Although I'm not sure if it's recommendable to normal people.
Oh and if you cannot eat spicy food -- don't worry. They have other menus that aren't spicy at all. I'd recommend ssam(aka. wrap) / soy-source / paddak chicken.
Anyway, that's my first thought -- The food is awesome, but the portion is too small. Besides, the food isn't coming out from the grill but a basket. The food gets cold fast as you enjoy them.
I had hoped that Vons can settle down greatly, as they did in Korea. However, unfortunately, I don't see that's going to happen.
I love Fries -- we can never miss Fries. A bit saltier than before I think.
I saw so many Korean-brand franchises opening up around here. We have Paris Bagautte, Tous Les Jours, Vons Chicken, Coco Hodo, Sulbing, etc. and I feel bad whenever they don't shine as much they did in Korea.
